Youth Evaluation and Treatment Center Announces New Guide to Teens and Texting

    Texting and Driving

Prohibit texting and driving under all circumstances. Make clear guidelines that let teens know that there will be consequences if they get caught texting and driving. A good privilege to use in weight of getting caught texting and driving is to take away phone privileges. It is important to talk to the teen about the dangers of texting and driving, which can lead to traffic violations, reckless driving, or serious accidents. Remember, texting and driving is illegal in many states, and that in itself says it has the potential to be very dangerous. A good thing to practice is storing cell phones in the glove compartment, back seat, or trunk of cars. There are also usually various safety features that can be enabled to disable texting and driving.

    Texting and Sleeping

Do not allow texting to interfere with getting a great night of sleep. When texting gets emotional or stressful, this can make people not fall asleep as well. Sleep loss, difficulty sleeping, or poor sleep are all factors in the use of texting while trying to fall asleep. A good tactic to practice is to leave cell phones on the opposite side of the room when going to bed. This will help in keeping the urges from texting while trying to fall asleep, conditioning the body to get a better night sleep.

    Sexting

What is sexting? Most youth evaluation and treatment centers explain these as being text messages between people that contain sexually explicit pictures or references, which in many places is now common for teens. It is important to teach teens that it is not acceptable to engage in this kind of activity, explaining to them the emotional consequences that can be paired with this kind of texting. Explain to teens the possibility for long-term impacts, because of the possibility that these pictures can be stored on phones for long periods of time, and then later used in uncomfortable situations. Once it is in circulation, there is no way to control who views it or who has it. Make sure all teens know the dangers of texting explicit content to people, because in some states these types of pictures are considered criminal if minors are involved. Just remember teens should be comfortable with the whole world seeing whatever they text.

Different aspects of texting can be dangerous to teens as well as any person, and Eagle Ranch Academy as well as other youth evaluation and treatment centers understands the risks associated with texting, and the benefits of teaching teens how to manage their phones before developing bad habits.

Teen Treatment Center New Tips for Parenting Teenagers

There is an old school saying that parents grow as their kids grow up. It is not a verbatim quote but that is what the proverb means. Raising teenagers is perhaps the most difficult phase of a parent’s life. There is simply too much that happens all the time. There are too many factors that have to be considered. A teenager is likely to develop the most physically, mentally and emotionally in these years and when so many aspects develop together, it is bound to get complicated. Whether or not your teen kid is going off the preferred route and taking into harmful ways that would call for the requirement of a teen treatment center may sound like the most serious issue but tackling every little aspect is a major challenge as well.

    Parenting Tips for Raising Teenagers

·Independence is of prime importance for teenagers. They have always been confided in your arms and it is time they would spread their wings to see life as they want to see it. Liberty is what you should be offering them. That is freedom with some restrictions. The restrictions should never appear to be overbearing as that could just lead to more troubles. Give them their space but let them know where to draw the line.

·Talking things out is the most advisable parenting tip. Irrespective of what the situation is and how grave the problem may be at hand, talking always helps. Speak with your child the risks of what he or she may be doing, show them what is right and what is not, prevent them from taking risky moves and try to create an understanding that is more than just communicating disciplinary teachings.

·Be welcoming of the world your teen is presently in. Not everything would be mutually agreeable hence try to win on the graver issues and let go on the minor ones. Drug addiction or wrong company is a red sign but playing an hour more or curling her silky straight hair does not pose any threat.

Parents who have troubled teenagers or those that have indulged in unacceptable habits and activities need not shy away from a teen treatment center and opting for one, sooner than later, is the wisest decision you would make.

Teen Treatment Center | New Tips on Managing ADD or ADHD

ADD or ADHD issues often go unexplored and ignored. Sometimes parents might just think their child is plain old defiant. This is probably true, but the issues surrounding Attention Deficient Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder are a little bit more complex than that.

Some of the behavioral problems such as lack of concentration, forgetfulness, or boredom are symptoms of one of these two conditions. The hyperactivity is more of a problem with teenagers or even adults who have ADHD than for those who have ADD.

Of course, teenagers cannot use their ADD or ADHD as an excuse to misbehave, as sometimes they can disrupt class or tell off a parent.  They need to be disciplined in order to help them correct their behavior.

Of course, the question remains is how can ADD and ADHD issues get resolved? What is the best way to train a child who suffers this condition to behave properly?

Some tips on how to handle ADD or ADHD children or teens are shown below:

    ·      Be stern and firm with the child or teen no matter how much the child reacts back. Then, discipline accordingly and always follow through with enforcing consequences of harmful or defiant behavior.

    ·      Give the child structure by giving him or her a schedule. On this daily or weekly schedule can include times when chores should be done as well as when homework should be done. Certain blocks of time for breaks or free time could also be added to this schedule.

    ·      Make sure the child or teen is challenged in some way. This is very important to be said because many people think that ADD or ADHD children are just not that intelligent. However, they are often so smart that they become easily bored. Draw out the genius in them and encourage them to always create or learn something new.

    ·      Keep them as busy as possible. If they are busy doing constructive activities such as playing an instrument, creating art work, building a computer, or joining clubs they will stay out of trouble. Schools often provide extracurricular activities that can help resolve ADD or ADHD issues by keeping them occupied.

    More Thoughts

Some parents dealing with ADD or ADHD issues may feel as if they are dealing with a perpetual two-year-old. In a way, there is some similarities. A two-year-old is always needing something to do, and this is a concept that could help parents get through this.

  • Help for Troubled Teens | New Tips on Finding Adequate Resources

Help for troubled teens is essential to find that is both adequate and cost effective. Here are some helpful tips from Eagle Ranch Academy that will help parents find suitable resources to help their troubled teen in these trying years.

Teenage years can be very difficult not just for the teenager but also for parents and teachers of that teen. The teenage stage is a phase of life that involves a number of changes. As a parent or guardian, one must make sure to be an active leader in finding help for troubled teens if that parent or guardian is not able to handle it themselves.

It is important that a parent realizes that this is the age for teenagers to lash out and want to have things their way. From a parental standpoint, one should try and stay calm and find a practical solution to the problem. There have been many instances involving corporal

punishment and spanking teenagers, but this is not the ideal approach, mainly because teenagers will get more rebellious when dealt with harshly for bad behavior. Parents need to adopt better techniques of teen calming methods that allow them to hear a peer out. Though it can’t be generalized, it is true that many teenagers face depression and mental disorders when subjected to brutal punishment.

A teenager, no matter how ill-behaved, needs someone who can understand them and love them. It is important that the parent or guardian is that person. However, there may be worst-case scenarios when a teenager really gets out of hand and nothing seems to help. In such cases, it is essential to find the right exterior outlet for help for troubled teens. There are many options to explore such as those expounded as follows:

Ø  Counseling: One should start with family counseling. This will be more private and the teenager will have a comfortable outlet. Approaching a professional who is versed in handling troubled teens can be very helpful as well. It is also helpful to contact a child’s school or a non-profit support system for regular counseling of a child. In many cases, the prior method has been proved to be very beneficial.

Ø  Medicine: This should be a last resort, and only for extreme cases. In some cases, medical help actually becomes a must. Consult a doctor, talk to them about a troubled teen’s problem, and find the right help for troubled teens based on the doctor’s recommendation.

Troubled teens usually fall into bad habits because they find no one to support them or to hear them out. Solve that problem based on the information given, and the family will lead the path for the life of a happy and healthy teenager.

In the Eagle Ranch Academy review I conducted, I first became acquainted with Eagle Ranch Academy, and there were several things that stood out.

    A warm and friendly community:

The first of which was the warm welcome I received from the staff as well as several of the students. I was also impressed with the strong sense of community at Eagle Ranch Academy. Everybody seemed to know each other’s name, including those who did not directly interact with the students on a regular basis. I noticed that students were allowed to interact with one another and that some had seemed to form close friendships with staff and students alike.

    Individual and personal attention:

One thing that stood out to me while reviewing Eagle Ranch Academy  was the amount of personal attention that each student received. This includes one-on-one therapy sessions with licensed therapists where the teen’s progress and challenges can be evaluated in order to help them better face the problems that are holding them back. Eagle Ranch Academy also provides personal help in another area where teens often have trouble, school. The combination of online classes and on-site teachers allows students to be responsible for their own work but also receive individual help if needed. Progress of students’ schoolwork is frequently assessed which helps them learn to be accountable.

    Building of trust and responsibility:

Students come to Eagle Ranch Academy with a wide range of problems and difficulties. Since no two students are the same, each is allowed to work at a pace that is effective and beneficial to that individual’s own needs. I also noticed during my eagle ranch academy review that positive reinforcements and feedback were often used to help reward and encourage students to continually progress.

Eagle Ranch Academy is a place where parents can trust that their teens are receiving the tools necessary to overcome their challenges to begin living a productive life.

    Troubled Teen Programs

There are various programs that exist for troubled teens. If one is considering putting a troubled teen through one of these programs it is important to research them thoroughly. Do not be afraid to call and ask questions. The more information that is researched, the better choice is made for the child and family.

Here is a general breakdown of common programs that help troubled teens.

    Residential Treatment Centers

Residential treatment centers are for teens that need long term help. These facilities have certified therapists that work with teens individually, as well as in groups, to search for the underlying cause of the problem and find a way to make lasting changes. Since troubled teens can stay at residential treatment centers from anywhere between a couple of months to two years, a full academic program is provided so students can continue their education. The facilities can cost around $4,000 to $12,000 a month. Some health insurances will pay for therapy.

    Boarding Schools

Boarding schools are not usually recommended for troubled teens since their purpose is primarily focused on academics. There are specialty boarding schools that focus on kids who are experiencing behavioral and emotional problems. These schools do not always offer or require therapy and are not a suitable troubled teen program for kids who have severe behavioral, emotional, and drug and alcohol problems. Costs can range from $2,000 to $6,000 a month.

    Military Schools

Military schools are good for troubled teens that have minor behavioral issues and need just a little more structure in their lives. There is a low tolerance for extreme behavioral and emotional problems and there is usually no therapy issued at these schools. Costs usually range from $3,000 to $5,000 a month.

    Wilderness Adventure Programs

Wilderness adventure programs remove troubled teens into nature where they can get away from the negative influences that surround them in their everyday lives. This troubled teen program usually has therapists working with the kids throughout their stay which can range from 30 to 60 days. Wilderness programs are great for teens that need to build self-esteem and learn responsibility and independence. Kids that need more long term treatment and constant follow-up may not benefit as much from this program. Wilderness adventure programs can range in costs from $250 to $500 a day.

There are several troubled teen programs out there that can offer help for teens that are struggling at home. Proper research and investigation will help determine which program is right for each individual child.

Teen Treatment Center announces help for teenage problems that can be found in various places.

Open communication, counseling and therapy, and relocation can provide teens with the help they need to overcome their challenges.

Teen treatment centers understand there are many challenges that today’s teenagers face on a daily basis. These include school, family and friend relationships, and problems with their self image. Some teenagers will face more difficult trials as they go throughout their teenage lives. Drug and alcohol abuse, problems with the law, violence at home and school, and other extreme emotional and behavioral issues have been known to plague numerous families. Luckily, help for teenage problems can be found in a variety of places.

    Communication

Before looking for outside help from teen treatment centers, remember that communication is vital in relationships, including the relationship that you have with your child. Ask questions. Even if the child feels that the parent is being nosy and complains that the parent is constantly hounding them, don’t stop. Being interested in what they do and listening to a teen shows them how much love and care for them there is. Certain teen problems such as stress and family relationships can be fixed over time with good communication within individual homes.

    Counseling and Therapy

Sometimes teenagers have problems that need more attention and help than just one-on-one talks with mom and dad. One common help for teenage problems is to talk with a counselor or therapist. Emotional and behavioral problems including eating disorders, brushes with the law, and drug and alcohol abuse should be handled by someone who is experienced with these teenage problems and can provide both teenager and parents with steps to help them overcome the problem that the teen is facing.

    Relocation

When communication, counseling, and therapy don’t seem to help, it may be time to remove the teen from their current environment and place them in a setting where they can receive constant treatment for their problem. There are numerous programs that exist for this very purpose. Examples include residential treatment facilities, wilderness programs, and specialty boarding schools.

    Residential Treatment Facilities

Residential treatment facilities provide therapy in individual and group settings by a licensed therapist. Since teenagers can stay at these facilities from a couple of months to two years it allows them to receive long term help. These facilities are great for teens that have severe emotional and behavioral issues.

    Wilderness Programs

Wilderness programs provide help for teenage problems by having the kids spend a month or two in the wilderness. This is a great way to help build a teen’s self-esteem and responsibility. Certain programs do have licensed therapists to help with issues but are not recommended for troubled teens with severe emotional and behavioral issues.

    Specialty Boarding Schools

Specialty boarding schools can also help teens with emotional and behavioral problems. These schools are not as long term as residential treatment facilities and some of them provide therapy.

Make sure to research which program would be best for each individual teen. Don’t be afraid to call and ask questions. The more found out about different programs that are out the, the better the decision you can make to help your child and find the best teen treatment center.
